	What is the Bandstand used for today?
	Let's just put paid to one urban myth that seems to still be doing the rounds in Trowbridge..... the Bandstand is safe to use and in fact is in regular use. The Town Council is the most prolific user of the Bandstand. There have been two seasons (during the summers of 2025 and 2026) of Sunday afternoon concerts featuring local brass bands. Then there are the regular Town Council events such as the Active Festival, Uniform Services Day and the Christmas Lights' Switch On, all of which utilise the Bandstand as the stage on which the event is centred. Then there are the one off events such as the "Tour de Trowbridge". This was a event jointly organised by the Trowbridge Chamber (of Commerce) and the Town Council that saw over four hundred cyclists from all over the country take part in a cycle event in March 2026 over courses ranging from 5Km to 75Km . This used the Bandstand as the focal point for the medal presentions and speeches. It is hoped that following the success of this initial event, the Tour de Trowbridge will become a regular entry on the town's calendar. What we can't currently do is use the bandstand to host events that involve heavily amplified music, but the scope for performing arts of all types (music, theatre, even dance) is only limited by imagination. Nor can an audience ever be charged to attend an event on the Bandstand. A local by-law dating back to the creation of the upper part of the Town Park dictates that this area shall always be accessible without charge for the enjoyment of the public. The bandstand can be hired out for a nominal fee (payable to Trowbridge Town Council). Return to HOME
