Does the FoTB work with other organisations to achieve our aims?

The short answer is YES..... we will work with whoever we need to (within the constraints of our Constitution) to achieve our aims.

Currently we are working closely with The Wiltshire Historic Buildings Trust (https://whbt.org.uk/) to explore all the options for the restoration of the bandstand. Their expertise, experience and contacts have already proved invaluable in getting us to the stage where we believe that what we're trying to achieve is realistic and possible.

We will also work closely with Trowbridge Town Council.... after all, they are the owners of the Bandstand and they, together with Wiltshire Council as the local Planning Authority, will have to approve any work done. It should be stressed however that this relationship is very much a two way street. We will NOT support any work that compromises the heritage of history of the Bandstand and will emphatically oppose any move to compromise on the preservation of the Bandstand's original features, fixtures and fittings.

Trowbridge Museum has a wealth of information on the history and heritage of the Bandstand and its place in the culture of the town. Whilst not directly relevant to the physical restoration of the Bandstand, this cultural archive provides a fantastic source of evidence detailing the importance and significance of the Bandstand..... all of which adds weight to our quest to save it.

We plan to engage with specialists in early 20th century building techniques to ensure that the necessary restoration of the fabric of the bandstand is undertaken correctly, sympathetically and with respect for the history and heritage of the building. This would include engaging experts in the reinforced concrete of the 1930s (very different apparently from that used today), experts in the paint originally used (still there under layers of more recent coverings) and experts in the conservation and preservation of the original fixtures and fittings (window frames, gutters and downpipes) still present.

The 20th Century Society (https://c20society.org.uk/) is another source of knowledge and expertise that we intend to explore.

More locally, the Trowbridge Civic Society, Trowbridge Chamber (of Commerce), Wiltshire Rural Music and of course the Old Town Hall trust all have a potential role to play and knowledge to share..... and we have no doubt that other groups as yet unidentified will be able to offer assistance as well!

Finally, we will approach local and national grant sources, businesses and potential benefactors with links to the town of Trowbridge, the performing arts and/or historic building preservation to ask for help in raising the funds needed to complete our project.
